Garbage for 26th August
Rehash Mole and Dagy’s extremely fine run at Mt Somers. Loco’s version.
Set off at 1130 on Saturday and waited for Dagy and Fingers on Halswell
Junction Road…….they went down Sabys…..eventually caught up at Lincoln Uni and
headed to Dawn Breakers to say G’Day. Did that and completely forgot that it
was his birthday that day so forgot the birthday stuff. I blame Dagy and wish
Dawny all the best and apologies!
Away down coaltrack road which Dawny said to use if we did not mind a bit of
shingle. That was not a worry, but the ford was. Flooded after all the rain and
I had to tow the Dagy van through because the water was too deep for his intake.
On to Coalgate and a beer at the pub with a snack. Landlady in poor shape as she
had not worked in the pub for 5 years but her husband had broken his ankle
badly. Food a stuff up but on to Mt Somers using my navman in the Dagy van which
took us down a tresspassers will road with many gates closed and dead sheep all
over. Not good!!! Ask me about it for more details. Glenroy camp empty and ask
the navman why we went passed it!!!!
Windwhistle lived up to it’s name and finally Mt Somers hove into view. Out
of the van to find Mole in work attire and well ready for a beer, several of
which went down before Mole and Dagy decided to recce the run. An hour or so
later we all returned to the church to find Fingers studying. Filled the dd’s
with flour and I drove Dagy round the first part of the runners trail while Mole
cycled into the setting sun to set the walkers bit. Hours later we met up
by Roberto’s farm with Mole sans bike. Called into the farm to talk to the man
about piss stops and trail, to be given carte blanche of his land. I was sent
down a series of roads to wait for Mole and Dagy to pop out of the hills having
laid trail. Waited for hours until the sun started setting, got the van stuck
turning round and eventually received a call saying they had got lost and were
virtually back at the piss stop. Picked Dagy up to set more trail from the van
door while Mole went to pick his bike up from the middle of a paddock and finish
laying walkers trail. Picked a knackered Mole up and we all agreed to finish
laying trail in the morning as we were running out of beer in the van.
Back to the church and whisky, beer, more whisky and a fine stew that Mole
had prepared before heading down to the worst run pub in the South Island and
more beer and the dreaded Rugby. Evidently we won and Mole drove us home for
more beer and much more whisky and movies.
Up at dawn and sat around waiting for the others to appear while having my
usual tea and toast. Finally a bleary eyed thing announced that breakfast would
be Halswell thick cut rindless Loin bacon along with sausages and eggs
and…whisky. Dagy and Mole then set off with beers to set the rest of the run.
This took them a long time and the troops were starting to arrive by the time
they got back.
By the time the run started things were getting blurry but the great pack
assembled and eventually set off. The front runners had quite a problem with the
first part of the trail because they did not thinl that flour would be on the
left side of the road. All the walkers had arrived at the first piss stop and
had consumed plenty before Dagy drove off to pick up the runners who were a bit
lost.
On again and another piss stop at Moles second church after trail went across
farmland in a straight line for the walkers and a twisty one for the runners.
The church was where one and all admired his collection of stuff, many of the
hussies went off to find toilets and lusty left for Hawea. On again and a third
piss stop by the bridge on Moles road before the On home.
You will understand that at 79 years old by this time I was getting persisted
and so am unable to remember the fines except there were many. I just hope that
Brick Sh** House puts them in the Trash for CH2H3???????? I remember Dagy, Glo
Worm, Klingon and RLD did the fines session.
Thanks to Mole and Mrs Whippy for hosting this joint run!
Good food and fun before leaving to head back to ChCh.
Thanks and On On
Loco
Note from Dagy:- photo’s will appear shortly once our office is back up and
running.
The beer money was down over $40.00 Not acceptable that some people
feel that the rest of us can pay for their beer! More to come on this subject
after the committee has met!
