Rehash of Run 1615, Brunhilda, Brenchley Farm, Lyttelton
Rehash Brunhildas magnificent canter over the Port Hills!!!!
Arrived at the mansion at 0826 to find Brunhilda still ensconsed in her wee cabin within the shed; dressed in her trendy onesie!
“Why “ the dog bounded out while Br staggered. SIF and self then lit the fire and a brew was put on after which Br became coherent and the day began with vigour!!! A quick discussion on where to set the trail while we waited for the other Hares…Firkin, Loco and Mr W Plank…. After some time SIF set off up the sheep paddock and self set off up the Chalmers Track setting trail as we went. “Why” came with me for moral support..NOT! There I was, struggling under the weight of sawdust and flour and a crook knee with the dog running hither and thither as if to say “look at me, I AM FIT”
Several hours later we met up on the spur line route and descended back to the warm fire. Only to find that the day in the valley was quite mild. Dogs turned up with the piss ( very timely) so a quick one was consumed before Br conned us into hauling logs of firewood up from the valley. This went well until Dogs stung himself on the dreaded New Zealand nettle which, for some reason, Br seems to be cultivating; followed by Shrek getting hold of one of the chooks!! Drinking beer seemed to be the better option so that activity took precedence.
Eventually some others arrived and the pack reluctantly headed off up the track; with SIF at the short trail carrying the booze for the piss stop.
All went well until the top, when Fiddlee Dick, Paul and one or two others, Dogs, Shrek, Glo and Grem; ignored the PS sign and headed left up to the gun emplacements on the R trail. They were confused there until SIF informed them that the “L” sign meant open the letter which they did not have cos we forgot to give it to them…….. So SIF told them it meant they had to run back to the Piss Stop and go on the walkers route. In the meantime the walkers had ignored the PS sign also and headed right along the very rough and challenging Spur Line Track. SIF and co finally caught up with them and called a Piss stop on the ridge.
In the meantime self and Br were sampling her whisky in front of the fire!!
The pack then carried on trail with everyone completing the run back to Brenchley farm where a fine pile of spuds and chops were awaiting consumption. Highlight of the afternoon watching Flapper go for a burton on the hill.
Fines…not in any order!!
Phew!!!
Winter camp rego’s still open for a wee while longer
It’s going to be a cracker!!
